Mini Chieftains K - 4
Junior Chieftains 5 - 8
Mini Chieftains is a welcoming introduction to cheer for young athletes who are brand new to the sport or still developing their foundational skills. This team offers a lighter time and financial commitment than our competitive options, making it a great fit for families who want their young athlete involved without the intensity of a full‑season team. No prior experience is expected. Coaches consider each athlete’s overall readiness, effort, and ability to learn in a positive, age‑appropriate environment as they build confidence, fundamentals, and Chieftain pride. No tryout is required, overall coachability is considered for each individual athlete. The season runs during fall football Sept/Oct. with practice once a week.
Junior Chieftains is for athletes in grades 5–8 who are learning the basics of cheer and performing sideline cheering. This team offers a lighter commitment level and focuses on motions, timing, jumps, sideline cheers, and building confidence in a positive, structured environment. Junior Chieftains provides meaningful performance opportunities at youth and school events while giving athletes the space to grow at an age‑appropriate pace. It’s an ideal option for those who want to cheer, build skills, and prepare for high school cheer. No tryout is required, overall coachability is considered for each individual athlete for the best interest of the team. The season runs twice a year: in April/May for learning sidelines, and fall football Aug/Sept/Oct. with practice 3 x a week in spring and 2-3 x a week in fall with cheering at OMS home football games.
High School Varsity White
The High School Varsity White Team is a spirit‑driven, game‑day team designed for athletes who want to cheer in high school without the skill demands, time commitment, or higher expectations of Varsity Green. This team focuses on clean motions, sideline cheers, and band chants that support school spirit at games and events. The schedule is lighter and the season shorter than Varsity, making it a great fit for athletes who love cheering, performing, and being part of the Chieftain community but have a different main sport and/or prefer a non‑competitive, lower‑pressure experience. Varsity White Team athletes contribute meaningfully to school spirit while building confidence, teamwork, and consistency in a positive environment. The season runs during fall high school football Aug/Sept/Oct. with practice 2 x a week.
High School Varsity Green
Varsity is the primary high‑school cheer team for athletes ready for higher skill expectations, stronger performance standards, and a longer season. Varsity athletes lead game‑day cheer at football and basketball games, perform more complex routines, and train at a faster pace. While Varsity does not require competition participation, Varsity athletes may also choose to join the Competition Team. This lane is ideal for athletes who want a more advanced, main-cheer-sport experience with increased responsibility and commitment. The season runs July/Aug/Sept/Oct with possible expansion into basketball Nov/Dec/Jan/Feb and spring tryouts in March/April with practice 3 x a week
High School Competition
The High School Competition Team is a separate high‑school lane for athletes pursuing further advanced skills, competitive routines, and a higher level of commitment. This team has a separate tryout, practice time, and travel expectations to competitions. Athletes must demonstrate strong technique, consistency, and readiness for the demands of competitive cheer. The season runs from July through January with practice once a week.
